VERNON, CT — A 117-mph highway jaunt through Vernon cost a driver two criminal charges, state police said.

At 4:25 p.m. on May 1, a state trooper on a speed enforcement detail on Interstate 84 eastbound near exit 66, according to an arrest report.

Suddenly, a Audi S4 whizzed by the trooper, whose laser unit registered the vehicle at 117 mph, according to an arrest report. The trooper quickly caught up to the Audi near Exit 67 and it was pulled over, according to an arrest report.

The driver, a 29-year-old New Britain man, was charged with reckless driving, records show.

He was also charged with failure to comply with passing on the right rules for his antics on the highway, according to an arrest report.
