Sports have a way of teaching invaluable life lessons — building character, fostering teamwork and strengthening the bonds within a community. In the Vernon area, these values have shaped some truly remarkable athletes from different eras, whose accomplishments continue to inspire.
Patch is celebrating five standout athletes whose achievements have left a lasting mark on our community. This list is just a snapshot, with countless other athletes helping shape the rich sports culture in our area.
1. Jaime Mailloux (Tennis)
A 2000 Rockville High School graduate, Jaime Mailloux earned All-CCC East distinction in each of her four years on the tennis team. She won three conference tennis titles during her career and was later inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame for her run atop the conference.

2. Adrianne Lapham (Soccer)
A 1999 Rockville High School graduate, Adrianne (Courchesne) Lapham built her Hall of Fame case across three sports, playing soccer, basketball and softball for the Rams. She's part of the school's 2026 Athletic Hall of Fame class, which spans 21 years and eight sports among its five honorees.
3. David French (Golf)
A 1985 Rockville High School graduate, David French built his golf game into an All-America-caliber career. He's set to be inducted into the Rockville High School Athletic Hall of Fame alongside four other Rams greats on Sept. 20, 2026.

4. Edward Polanco (Football)
A 1992 Rockville High School graduate, Edward Polanco anchored the Rams as a three-time All-CCC selection on the football field. He capped his prep career as a CHSCA Class L All-State honoree, one of the highest honors a Connecticut high school player can earn.
5. Thomas Chmielecki (Football, Wrestling & Track)
A 1996 Rockville High School graduate, Thomas Chmielecki spread his talent across three sports, playing football while also wrestling and competing in track and field. He joins Rockville's 2026 Hall of Fame class as one of four three-sport honorees being recognized that year.
