Strong Family Farm Opens Registration For 15th Annual Scarecrow Contest

VERNON, CT — Registration is open for the 15th annual Strong Family Farm Scarecrow Contest in Vernon, with participants invited to create and display scarecrows at the farm through October.

There is no entry fee for individuals or groups. Categories include family, adult groups, youth groups, businesses and traditional scarecrows.

Registered participants can visit the farm during daylight hours to install their scarecrow on a designated fence post. Scarecrows will be installed through Oct. 5, when official judging will take place.

New this year, visitors will have an opportunity to participate in early judging during the farm’s “Sunday on the Farm” event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 27. The event will include activities such as pumpkin crafts and an 11 a.m. storytime.

Winners in each category will be announced during the farm’s Harvest Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 18.

The scarecrows will remain on display at the farm through the end of October.
