Vernon Native Publishes Book Exploring How Pakistani Students View Justice And Legal Rights

VERNON, Conn. — A Vernon native and Rockville High School graduate has published a book examining how university students in Pakistan understand law, justice and their legal rights.

Abdullah Chaudhry, who is entering his senior year at the University of Connecticut, wrote The Next Generation of Justice: How Pakistani University Students Understand Law, Justice, and Their Legal Rights as a project combining his interests in law, public policy and international perspectives on justice.

Chaudhry is studying political science at UConn with a minor in women's and gender studies. He has gained legal experience through internships at Day Pitney LLP and Aspen Insurance, where he worked alongside attorneys and in-house counsel.

He plans to attend law school after completing his undergraduate degree.

The newly published book is based on interviews with university students from across Pakistan. Through those conversations, students discuss what justice means to them, how they view their country's legal system and whether they feel informed about their legal rights.

Rather than promoting a particular political viewpoint, Chaudhry said the book is intended to document the perspectives of a generation that will eventually play a role in shaping Pakistan's legal and civic future.

The interviews identify several recurring themes, including legal awareness, access to justice, corruption, civic responsibility and the role young people can play in strengthening legal institutions.

"As someone pursuing a legal career, I've always given thought to how different societies understand justice, wherever they are in the world," Chaudhry said.

Publishing the book before completing his undergraduate degree represents a milestone in Chaudhry's academic career. He hopes the project encourages readers to think more critically about law, legal education and civic engagement, both internationally and within their own communities.

Chaudhry's interests extend beyond his academic and legal pursuits. He models for UConn, spends time creating projects through UConn's Creator Studio and participates in the Greek Basketball Association with his fraternity brothers in AEPI.

He also said he is starring in a show with actor Josh Gad, known for voicing Olaf in Disney's Frozen franchise.

As he prepares for his final year at UConn, Chaudhry said his long-term goal is to build a career in the legal profession and contribute to discussions surrounding justice, legal education and public policy.
