Vernon Pet Pantry Says Dog Food Supply Could Run Out In Just Days, Calls Donations 'Urgent'

VERNON, CT — The Vernon Pet Pantry is asking residents to donate dry and canned dog food after organizers said the pantry is running dangerously low and could run out in just days.

The pantry operates out of the Hockanum Valley Community Council.

The appeal for immediate donations centers on dog food, both dry and canned, and describes the need as urgent. Donations of cat and dog food are needed on a continuous basis, according to the information shared by the pantry, but this week's request focuses on replenishing its dog food supply.

The main drop-off location is the Hockanum Valley Community Council, 25 Naek Road in Vernon. The group noted that the site is closed on weekends. Residents can also leave donations at several other collection sites in Vernon and nearby towns.

Additional drop-off locations listed by the pantry are Coldwell Banker Realty in South Windsor, Dog Essentials in Vernon, First Congregational Church in Vernon, the Vernon Senior Center, The Pet Store Next Door in Bolton, Posh Pups in Tolland, ShopRite in Vernon, Stop & Shop in South Windsor, Stop & Shop on Talcottville Road in Vernon, Stop & Shop on Windsorville Road in Vernon, Mellow Mutt in Manchester, The Proper Pet in Tolland, Ray Page Plumbing and Lazy Dog Salon and Daycare of Vernon and Town and County Vet in Vernon.

The donation drive spans Vernon, South Windsor, Manchester, Bolton and Tolland, giving residents several options to contribute. The request asks residents to help “our furry friends” by donating food as soon as possible.

Lisa Moody, a founder of the Vernon Pet Pantry, said donations directly support local households trying to keep their pets fed.

"Every can or bag of food helps - and helps ensure that a beloved family pet doesn’t go hungry," she said.
