Vernon Police Begin Series Of Active Shooter Training Exercises At Elementary School

VERNON, CT — The Vernon Police Department is conducting active threat and shooter response training sessions at Skinner Road School.

Training began Monday evening and is also scheduled for Sept. 16, Sept. 28 and Oct. 2. Sessions are slated to take place from approximately 5 to 9 p.m. and will be confined to the school grounds.

Residents and others in the area may notice an increased police presence around the school during the training sessions.

Police are asking residents and community members not to enter the school grounds while training is underway.

The activity is a planned training exercise and that there is no emergency or threat to the public, police said.

The training is intended to enhance officers' preparedness and response capabilities in the event of an active threat, police said.
