Vernon Police Dog Uncovers Drugs, Weapon In Car, After Loud Music Complaint At Apartment Complex

VERNON, CT — What began as loud music blasting from a car at a Vernon apartment complex ended with confiscated drugs and a weapon, police said.

According to an arrest report, the noise complaint came in just after noon on Saturday and the caller complained it was coming from a gold Honda Accord in an apartment complex parking area on South Street. The registration on the car belonged to an Infinity, according to an arrest report.

While questioning a resident of the complex who was in the passenger seat listening to the music — 49-year-old Anthony Powell — police observed drug paraphernalia in plain view and called in VPD canine Boone, who then uncovered narcotics in the Honda, according to an arrest report.

A subsequent search of the Honda revealed two rocks of crack cocaine, ecstasy pills, and a glass smoking pipe, according to an arrest report.

A Taser was also discovered in the vehicle, police said.

Charges filed against Powell include the use of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.
