Vernon Public Works Crews Plugging Along With Storm Cleanup
Steady progress is being made the cleanup from a major snowstorm, officials in Vernon said.

VERNON, CT — A week after an epic snowstorm hit the region, Vernon Department of Public Works crews continue to chip away at the mess left behind.
The storm that dumped in upward of 2 feet on north central Connecticut a week ago.
Crews have been working with payloaders and dump trucks in neighborhoods, on cul-de-sacs and where snow piles are hindering sight lines.

In the tight streets of the Rockville section of town, crews have been using used the DPW's 5-ton "Snow-Go," machine, a big snow blower mounted to the front of a payloader. It takes just seconds for the machine to fill a dump truck with snow when it's in use.
"You can help the crews by not parking on the street and taking your refuse and recycling bins in," town officials said.

Representatives from the fire marshal's office have been digging out fire hydrants.
"If you have a hydrant near your home, digging it out now can save precious minutes if there is a fire call at your home or in your neighborhood," town officials said.
Fire Marshal Dan Wasilewski said on the main roads, like Route 30, DOW crews have been digging out hydrants that have been buried. Im the neighborhoods, the residents must take the initiative, he said.
