CT's 1st Proton Therapy Center Opens In Wallingford (patch.com) — Wallingford is now home to Connecticut's first proton therapy center, bringing one of the most advanced forms of radiation treatment directly to local and regional cancer patients. The new Connecticut Proton Center on Northrop Road offers highly targeted proton beam therapy, led by Yale Medicine and supported by Hartford HealthCare, aiming to reduce side effects and improve outcomes while positioning Wallingford as a hub for cutting-edge cancer care.
   

2. Bookstore Among 48 New Businesses Registered In Wallingford In August (patch.com) — Wallingford residents can look forward to a wave of new local options after 48 businesses registered in town during August, including a new bookstore called The Open Book. While state filings don't guarantee doors are open yet, the mix of landlords, remodelers, and specialty shops like jewelry and gift businesses signals fresh commercial activity across the community.
   

3. Developer plans 83-unit affordable housing complex in CT suburb (courant.com) — Wallingford officials will soon weigh an 83‑unit housing complex on Leigus Road that would reserve 80 percent of its apartments as affordable, including 18 supportive units for residents with disabilities. Backed by Wallingford Works for Housing but opposed by some neighbors worried about losing open land, the proposal invokes Connecticut's 8‑30g law and heads to the Planning and Zoning Commission on Sept. 14.
   

4. Sheehan hires former player Caitlyn Velez as its new girls basketball coach (nhregister.com) — Wallingford's Sheehan High School has hired alum and former standout guard Caitlyn Velez as its new girls basketball head coach, replacing longtime coach Mike Busillo. Velez, a 2021 graduate who played at Randolph-Macon, says she's eager to give back to the Wallingford community and lean on the support of former local coaches as she leads the Titans.
   

5. Rev3rent to set release debut album in October, share title track "She Let The World Run Rampant" (lambgoat.com) — Wallingford metal fans can catch Rev3rent with Slaughter to Prevail at The Dome at Toyota Oakdale Theatre on November 14, part of a larger North American tour. The band is also releasing its debut album, "She Let The World Run Rampant," on October 30, and has just shared the heavy title track with an accompanying music video.
