Crosby football proves it's not a pushover anymore, at least in season opening win over WCA (ctpost.com) — Crosby High’s football team gave Waterbury fans something to cheer about with a 21-0 shutout of Waterbury Career Academy at Municipal Stadium, marking only their second win ever in the series. Behind new head coach Quintin Tyson, junior receiver Iziah Weir and sophomore back Ahzair Inabinett powered a young Bulldogs squad that’s determined to shed its pushover reputation this season.

2. Waterbury man facing charges after police find more than 4,000 grams of cocaine and various illicit drugs (courant.com) — State and Waterbury police say a 40-year-old Waterbury man ran a large-scale cocaine operation from his Mohican Avenue home, where they seized more than 4,700 grams of suspected cocaine, other drugs, and an illegal handgun. After months of controlled buys in the Waterbury area, investigators executed search warrants, arrested him at home, and had him arraigned at Waterbury Superior Court on numerous narcotics and weapons charges.

3. Meriden man linked to shootings in 3 Connecticut cities, police say (myrecordjournal.com) — A Meriden man already convicted of prior gun crimes is now accused of using a stolen SUV and multiple firearms in a string of shootings that investigators link to Meriden, Middletown, and Waterbury. Waterbury police arrested him in June, recovering an AR-15-style weapon and Glock that ballistics later tied to casings from several incidents across the three cities.
