WEST HARTFORD, CT — The time is now to register for a road race at one of the town's biggest annual events later this year.
Residents in West Hartford will have an opportunity this June to take part in a pair of family-oriented running events designed to promote fitness and support local causes.
The "Celebrate! West Hartford FUNd RUNS" will include a timed 5K race and a non-competitive Kids’ K, held in conjunction with the town’s 'Celebrate! West Hartford,' a two-day outdoor festival June 6-7 this year.

The 5K race begins in West Hartford Center, follows a route that includes historic areas and a stretch along the Trout Brook Trail, and finishes back near Blue Back Square.
Race organizers note the 5K course is USA Track & Field certified.
Awards will be given to first-, second-, and third-place finishers in male and female divisions across 10 age categories, ranging from 10 and under to 80 and older.
Overall male and female winners, as well as the top male and female finishers from West Hartford, will receive prizes valued at $100 or more.
Additional trophies will be awarded to top male, female, and age 65-plus finishers.
All 5K participants will also be eligible for a raffle featuring prizes valued at $25 or more. Runners who register by May 22 are guaranteed a race T-shirt.
Event organizers said a portion of the proceeds will benefit The Town That Cares and the Leisure Services Scholarship Fund, which supports access to recreation programs such as swim lessons and school vacation camps for children from low-income families.
Race-day check-in and registration will be held at the Town Hall parking lot at 50 South Main St. The post-race awards ceremony and reception will take place in the Festival Dining Tent at West Hartford Town Hall.
Free parking will be available at Isham Garage, with additional paid parking at Town Center Garage. Participants are advised to allow extra time due to anticipated road closures.
