West Hartford Forum To Educate Folks About Fair Housing Rights
West Hartford Social Services will host a fair housing workshop on discrimination protections on Tuesday.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford Social Services and the Connecticut Fair Housing Center will host a workshop Tuesday focused on housing discrimination protections and residents’ legal rights.
The event, titled “Know Your Rights Around Housing Discrimination,” is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Elmwood Community Center auditorium, 1106 New Britain Ave.
Organizers said the workshop will provide information about state fair housing laws and the protections available to renters and homebuyers in Connecticut.

According to event materials, Connecticut law prohibits housing discrimination based on protected characteristics including race, color, national origin, sex, religion, disability, ancestry, age, sexual orientation, marital or family status, gender identity or expression, lawful source of income, veteran status, and status as a victim of domestic violence.
West Hartford officials said access to safe and stable housing can affect residents’ health, education, employment opportunities and overall quality of life.

The workshop will be presented by the Connecticut Fair Housing Center and is intended to help residents better understand their rights and available resources related to housing discrimination.
