West Hartford Launches 'Neat Neighbors' To Spark Cleanup Efforts

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The Town of West Hartford has launched a new volunteer cleanup initiative designed to help residents, community groups and organizations reduce litter in neighborhoods and public spaces.

The program, called "Neat Neighbors," is being offered through the West Hartford Department of Public Works and provides cleanup equipment to groups interested in organizing local litter collection efforts.

Town officials said the initiative is open to neighborhood associations, civic organizations, scout troops, schools, places of worship and other volunteer groups.

Participants can reserve a cleanup kit through the DPW, pick it up before their event and return it when the cleanup is complete.

Collected trash can be brought back to public works, or the department will arrange pickup if volunteers coordinate a collection location and the volume of debris is too large to transport.

Each Neat Neighbors kit includes 12 safety vests, 12 litter pickers, 12-gallon buckets, gloves, and trash bags.

The program is intended to make it easier for residents to organize volunteer cleanups and help maintain public spaces throughout town.

DPW officials also said they can recommend areas that may benefit from cleanup efforts for groups looking for project ideas.

The town said the program is aimed at encouraging community involvement while helping keep West Hartford's neighborhoods, parks and public spaces clean.
