West Hartford A Lucky Place To Play The Lottery This Week ... Really Lucky

WEST HARTFORD, CT — It was a good week to purchase a Play 4 lottery ticket at one West Hartford store.

And for one lucky West Hartford resident, seven times was the charm.

That's because the store sold nine winning tickets on Wednesday, July 8, including seven to one West Hartford resident and two others to a Ludlow, Mass., resident.

If you're scoring at home, that's nine winning tickets to two separate players.

According to the Connecticut Lottery Corp., the nine winning tickets were purchased at the Sam's Food Store located at 1140 New Britain Ave., West Hartford.

Play 4 is a daily numbers drawing game that costs a minimum 50 cents to play (with several additional multiplier options available) with a payout anywhere from $14 to $25,000.

In the case of the Ludlow, Mass., resident, this individual hit it big with two $25,000 payouts for a total of $50,000.

The West Hartford resident won a total of $127,080 with the seven winning tickets.

"Looks like there were nine (winning tickets). Seven of the nine tickets were bought by the same person, and another person purchased the other two," said Connecticut Lottery Corp. spokesman Arthur Mongillo.

Before anyone starts making conspiratorial accusations, Mongillo offered an easy explanation for how that happened.

"It’s not uncommon for some players to purchase multiple tickets with the same numbers, but to be sure, I went and verified that it is indeed the case for both winners here," he told Patch Friday morning.

According to the Connecticut Lottery Corp., the West Hartford resident was extremely lucky with his choice of numbers, hitting three $25,000 payouts and four $13,020 payouts.

The reason for the different payouts associated with the same numbers is that the Play 4 game does offer qualifying bonuses, meaning the payout depends on how much you invest in the lottery ticket.
