📰 News we're reading

• Former PTA president at CT elementary school accused of embezzling funds (courant.com) — West Haven parents should know that a former Alma E. Pagels Elementary School PTA president has been charged with third-degree larceny after police probed irregular withdrawals and missing reports from the PTA account. Investigators say a new treasurer uncovered questionable Venmo use and a $4,000 withdrawal before school started, leading to a July arrest and a court date later this month.

• How Are Data Centers Impacting Health? (uconn.edu) — West Haven has joined Groton and Morris in pausing new data center construction, and a UConn expert explains why residents are worried. Massive facilities can drive up energy and water costs, add air and noise pollution, and disproportionately affect already stressed neighborhoods, though researchers say smarter regulation and cleaner power could balance economic benefits with local health and environmental protection.

• High school football roundup: Cheshire rallies for victory (wtnh.com) — West Haven High's football team let a 13-0 lead slip away Friday night, falling 15-13 to Cheshire after two safeties and a late 44-yard field goal. The roundup also highlights other Southern Connecticut Conference games, but the Blue Devils' narrow loss will sting for local fans watching the season's early momentum.
