Police are asking for help identifying a driver who they say exceeded 100 mph near an Easton school after dismissal.

EASTON, CT — Easton police are asking for the public’s help identifying a driver who they say exceeded 100 mph in a school zone near Helen Keller Middle School shortly after dismissal.

The incident occurred Oct. 16 on Route 59 southbound in front of the school, according to a Tuesday Facebook post from the Easton Police Department.

Police said the vehicle was initially clocked traveling approximately 55 mph on radar when Officer Scialdoni attempted to pull it over.

Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated to speeds exceeding 100 mph in the school zone, putting students and other motorists at risk, according to police.

“Due to the excessive speed, amount of citizens on the road, and current legislation that prohibits us from engaging in a pursuit, we were unable to identify the registration plate on the vehicle,” the department said.

Police released photos of a dark blue Ford Mustang convertible with a black soft top that they are seeking to identify in connection with the incident.

The department said it has significantly increased its traffic enforcement presence over the past year and plans to continue efforts to reduce speeding and unsafe driving in Easton.

Anyone who recognizes the vehicle or has information about its owner is asked to contact Officer Scialdoni at 203-268-4111 or Jscialdoni@eastonctpolice.com.

Information can also be submitted through the department’s Facebook or Instagram accounts, although police cautioned that the pages are not monitored around the clock.
