1. 13 Students From Westport Schools Named Among 2027 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists (patch.com) — Westport families can celebrate as 13 students from Staples High School, Greens Farms Academy, and Pierrepont School have been named semifinalists in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program. These high-achieving seniors now move forward in a nationwide competition for prestigious scholarships, with most expected to advance to finalist status based on academics, activities, recommendations, and test scores.
   

2. New York Man Arrested After Westport Police Discover He Was In Stolen Car (patch.com) — Westport drivers on Post Road West may have noticed police activity Monday evening when officers stopped a Kia Forte flagged by a license plate reader as stolen from East Haven. Police say the 24-year-old Bronx driver, whose license was suspended, was arrested on motor vehicle larceny and operating-under-suspension charges and is being held on $5,000 bail pending a Stamford court appearance.
   

3. Optional counseling needs assessment survey planned (westportjournal.com) — Westport parents should know the Board of Education unanimously approved an optional Counseling Needs Assessment survey for students starting this fall, despite some concerns about sensitive questions. The survey, aligned with a state health survey, aims to identify students needing support, with opt-out options available and specific administration dates set for different grades from October through February.
   

4. Unsung Heroes #446 (06880danwoog.com) — Westport's Club203 has kicked off its fifth year, celebrating volunteers who create a welcoming social space for adults with disabilities. Local partners like Earthplace, 900 Degree Pizza Truck, MoCA Westport, and musician Warren Bloom helped make the latest gathering a warm, inclusive night that reflects the town's "4 Days of Service and Remembrance" spirit.
   

5. Developer paid $6M for former Westport Humane Society property (hartfordbusiness.com subscription) — A developer has bought the former Connecticut Humane Society site on Post Road East in Westport for $6 million and plans to build 30 housing units there. Town officials have already approved demolishing existing buildings for 25 rentals and five townhomes, with construction expected to last 16 to 18 months and leasing starting in early 2027.
