Free Summer Environmental Program for Windham-Area Youth Now Open

WILLIMANTIC, CT — Registration is now open for Project Imo’s Summer 2026 Environmental Impact Program, a free, hands-on opportunity for young people ages 14–24 to explore conservation, climate issues, and community action.

The program will run June 29 through July 9 in downtown Willimantic, with participants working out of Idea Forge Studios and engaging in projects across the community.

This summer’s focus includes urban conservation topics such as heat islands, watershed health, and green space development. Youth will also take part in a partnership with the Willimantic Whitewater Partnership, helping to build a rain garden at Whitewater Park and supporting invasive species management along the river.

Participants will gain real-world experience through fieldwork and by creating media that shares environmental stories with the public.

The program is free, and eligible youth may also have the opportunity to earn wages through EASTCONN’s Youth Employment Program while participating.

Lunch is provided, and space is limited.
