Windsor Locks Town Hall To Close Fridays Under New Permanent Hours

The schedule begins Sunday, Nov. 8, with longer weekday hours. Friday after-school and recreation programs will continue.

Windsor Locks Town Hall offices will close Fridays under a permanent schedule beginning Sunday, Nov. 8, the town announced. Offices will open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.

The change is intended to improve access for working residents who have difficulty conducting business during traditional office hours, according to the announcement. The town cited limited Friday traffic and continued demand for services after 4 p.m. on other weekdays.

Hourly Town Hall employees will continue working their regular 35-hour workweek on a compressed schedule. Some positions previously were reduced from 40 to 35 hours through budget reductions that generated taxpayer savings, according to the town.

The announcement cites seven budget referendums and the need to continue identifying savings. Friday closures are expected to reduce heating, cooling, electricity and other operating costs, while the revised schedule may also support employee retention, according to the town.

Residents can pay property and other taxes, access property record cards, look up assessments and apply for building permits online, according to the announcement. Existing after-school and recreation programs will continue as scheduled, including Friday programming.
