Wilmington could increase fine for open container drinking in public (delawareonline.com) — If you're caught drinking from an open container near Wilmington schools, churches, community centers, or liquor stores, you could soon face a $150 fine under a proposed city ordinance. Council member Zanthia Oliver says the goal is to protect "sensitive areas" where families gather, with a vote scheduled at City Council's Oct. 1 meeting downtown.
   

2. Governor Meyer Launches Program Turning Student IDs into Library Cards to Expand Access to Reading and Learning (delaware.gov) — A new state pilot announced in Wilmington will let Eisenberg Elementary students use their school IDs as public library cards, starting this school year. The program, centered around Route 9 and New Castle libraries, aims to remove paperwork barriers so kids can more easily access books and learning resources, and could later expand to more schools and districts across Delaware.
   

3. Jeffrey Beiler II VA Wilmington health care (va.gov) — Veterans in Wilmington will see a leadership change at the Wilmington VA Medical Center, where Jeffrey A. Beiler II has been appointed interim director overseeing the hospital and five outpatient clinics. With extensive experience running other VA facilities and major budgets, he'll now guide local operations, staffing, and services that many area veterans and families rely on daily.
   

4. Mystery drone pilot drops cash on unsuspecting Delawareans (delawareonline.com) — A Wilmington drone hobbyist has been secretly dropping small bundles of cash, including a recent $100 surprise on the Riverfront for a Mary Campbell Center case manager and her client. The anonymous "302 Cash Copter" pilot funds most giveaways himself and through social media donations, aiming to counter online negativity with unexpected moments of joy across Delaware.
   

5. 25+ Thefts, 7 Retail Chains: Police Detail Massive Theft Case (mychesco.com) — Delaware State Police say a Smyrna man was arrested in Wilmington after more than 25 alleged retail thefts across New Castle County, targeting chains like Home Depot, Walmart, and Lowe's. Investigators report over $48,000 in stolen merchandise, thousands in damage, and numerous felony charges, with the suspect now back in Department of Correction custody on significant cash bail.
