A 21-year-old Florida woman was arrested Friday after allegedly posting a threat on social media to assassinate President Donald Trump during an upcoming visit to Daytona Beach.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood announced on social media Friday that Allison Jeanne Albro had been investigated by the sheriff's office's Domestic Security Unit and the U.S. Secret Service after posting the alleged threat Thursday night.

Volusia County Jail records show Albro was booked at 1:01 a.m. Friday. She is facing two charges, one for written threats to kill or do bodily harm and one count of using of a two-way communication device to commit a felony.

"We are not going to tolerate threats to assassinate the president," Chitwood wrote on X. [Albro] is learning that the hard way."

In a screenshot shared by Chitwood, Albro allegedly posted a photograph of herself alongside a message indicating she planned to attend Trump's rally and shoot him with a Glock handgun.

Chitwood said investigators subsequently contacted Albro, who claimed the post was intended as a joke and denied having access to a firearm.

"She said she was joking with this post, she doesn't have access to a Glock or any other weapon, and she would never hurt anyone," Chitwood wrote.

Chitwood also issued a warning to others who might consider making similar statements online, even if they believe the remarks are humorous.

"I would strongly advise anyone else thinking of posting a 'joke' along these lines to think twice," Chitwood wrote.

The sheriff emphasized that his agency is coordinating with federal law enforcement ahead of Trump's visit to Daytona Beach.

"VSO continues to work hand in hand with the Secret Service, FBI and all our law enforcement partners to ensure this presidential visit to Daytona Beach is a safe event for all who attend, and for our whole community," he said.
