PHOTOS: Hurricane Isaias Decimates Florida Panhandle
The category 2 hurricane made landfall on Florida's Panhandle over the weekend leaving destruction and flooding in its wake. See photos.
ACROSS FLORIDA--Hurricane Isaias made its landfall on the Panhandle of Florida over the weekend. The hurricane came ashore Friday near the gulf vacation town of Destin. The area filled with high-rises and tourist shops were subjected to Isaias' wrath, peeling off roof tops and downing numerous trees.
As the hurricane moved across the Panhandle, the storm eventually weakened but still remained dangerous. Within the first hours of landfall, nearly 900,000 customers were without power, mostly in Florida and Alabama. In addition to power outages, at least four deaths were linked to the storm. This included the death of a woman after a tree fell on her home in Escambia County Friday night.
Despite the wreckage the storm left in its wake, several major routes along the coast were open by Saturday morning. There is still plenty to be cleaned up after the hurricane but crews worked tirelessly to remove downed trees and fix power lines.
