The Bloodhounds werenāt favored going in, but clutch wins across the lineup pushed them past Sebring and highlighted several other strong Polk County performances on both the boys and girls sides.

2. Robert K. Wingate (orlando-news.com) ā Auburndale readers are remembering Robert āBobā Wingate, born in Auburndale in 1932, whose long life of military, church, and family service touched many across Central Florida. The 93-year-old Air Force veteran and Latter-day Saints leader will be honored with funeral and graveside services today in Lady Lake and Fruitland Park, with his family requesting memorial donations instead of flowers.

3. Nine World War II veterans honored at Sun 'n Fun. Hear their stories (theledger.com) ā Polk County World War II veterans, including Auburndale resident Robert Taylor, were honored on opening night of Sun ān Fun 2026 for their extraordinary service. The group, ages 98 to 107, shared powerful stories ranging from segregated paratrooper units and Pacific naval battles to the Battle of the Bulge and recovering Nazi-looted art.

Polk State College to celebrate 134th graduating class on April 30 (polk.edu) ā Polk State College will graduate more than a thousand students on April 30 in Lakeland, including many from Polk County communities like Auburndale. Distinguished alumna Debbie Harsh, a past president of the Auburndale Chamber of Commerce, will be honored for decades of civic and business leadership, while Floridaās education commissioner delivers the evening commencement address.
