• 2 dead in US-41 motorcycle crash in Hillsborough County (fox13news.com) — An 18-year-old Clearwater woman and a 31-year-old Tampa man died after their motorcycle collided with a turning Chevy Colorado on US-41 in Palm River-Clair Mel Friday night. Florida Highway Patrol says a second motorcyclist overturned while swerving to avoid the crash, and all four people involved were taken to a local hospital.
   

• Proposed Indian Rocks Beach smoking ban targets cigarette butt litter (baynews9.com) — Clearwater's existing beach smoking restrictions are now a model as Indian Rocks Beach considers its own ban on cigarettes and vaping to cut secondhand smoke and plastic litter. Local cleanup leaders say cigarette butts are the most common trash they collect, and city officials will take up a key vote on the proposal in early September.
   

• Trump-shaped ecstasy pills issued fatal warning in tourist hotspot (newsweek.com) — Clearwater is briefly mentioned in connection with Trump-shaped ecstasy pills tied to an overdose case in 2019, as Dutch experts now warn the same style of pills may be especially dangerous. The report explains these novelty tablets can contain a slower-acting, higher-risk substance that increases overdose chances, and urges anyone seeing severe reactions to call emergency services immediately.
