• Amid Dengue Spike, Florida Counties Declare Emergency (newser.com) — Clearwater is part of a dengue-related local state of emergency, with officials releasing mosquito-eating fish into area waters to help curb disease-carrying insects. Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas counties have all declared emergencies as dengue cases climb, unlocking extra resources for spraying, public education, and long-term planning to protect residents from mosquito-borne illness.

Jurors may not be told (tampabay.com) — A February trial will determine whether a Pinellas businessman is guilty of leaving the scene after his boat struck the Clearwater Ferry near Memorial Causeway, killing one passenger and injuring several others. Prosecutors want jurors to hear about his earlier boating accidents, while his attorney is fighting to keep that history out, arguing it unfairly paints him as reckless rather than focusing on the 2025 Clearwater crash.
   

• Twenty-Four Karat Club of the Southeastern U.S. Marks 50th Annual Banquet With 10 Scholarships and Jeweler of the Year Award (instoremag.com) — Clearwater residents Steve and Julie Weintraub of Gold & Diamond Source have been honored as Jeweler of the Year by the Twenty-Four Karat Club of the Southeastern United States. The award was presented at the group's 50th annual banquet in Atlanta, where 10 industry scholarships were also handed out to jewelers and students from around the Southeast.
