Photos of old and new to wrap Coral Gables City Hall construction site (miamitodaynews.com) — Coral Gables City Hall is entering a two‑ to two‑and‑a‑half‑year restoration, and a new wraparound construction fence will soon display historic and future images of the landmark to keep residents engaged. City leaders say the nearly century‑old building is being returned to its original splendor, with offices and commission chambers reconfigured inside. Expect limited access to City Hall while work continues on this once‑in‑a‑generation project.
   

2. What happens when police stop a driverless car? Inside a Waymo training for first responders (nbcmiami.com) — Coral Gables police officers are getting specialized hands-on training with Waymo's driverless taxis so they can safely access, disable, or move the vehicles during emergencies on local streets. The program, part of a broader South Florida effort, aims to ensure first responders understand the technology, know who to contact at Waymo during investigations, and can respond quickly when autonomous cars block traffic or are involved in crashes.
   

3. Caplin wins $100K grant to fortify local news coverage (fiu.edu) — A new $100,000 grant to FIU's Lee Caplin School of Journalism will help strengthen local news coverage across South Florida, including communities served by the Coral Gables Community Foundation. The funding, part of $760,000 in Press Forward South Florida grants, will support student reporting partnerships and bolster local outlets that provide trusted civic information in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe counties.
   

4. A Brazilian 'river of faith' finds a new home in South Florida (miamiarch.org) — Brazilian Catholics are bringing the famed Círio de Nazareth devotion to South Florida, with blessed images traveling through communities including Coral Gables before a major August procession in Margate. The pilgrimage connects local Brazilian parishes and homes through prayer, rosaries, and small gatherings. Organizers say the effort strengthens immigrant faith and turns a beloved Brazilian tradition into a living practice here.
