• FAU And Hydromea Win AUKUS Grant For Next-Gen Underwater Communication System (oceannews.com) — Cutting-edge underwater communication technology will be tested right at FAU’s SeaTech campus in Dania Beach as part of a $1 million AUKUS defense innovation grant. FAU and Swiss company Hydromea are building a system that blends long-range acoustic and high-speed optical links to keep underwater vehicles and sensors connected. Over the next year, trials in Dania Beach and Australia could pave the way for advances in maritime security and ocean monitoring.
   

• ‘Bug spray stored next to cooking oil'; roach droppings in soap dispenser: 3 South Florida restaurants shut (sun-sentinel.com) — Health inspectors temporarily shut down Elvis Italian Grille on Griffin Road in Dania Beach after finding numerous live and dead roaches, food-storage problems, and cleanliness issues. The restaurant was allowed to reopen the same day after a follow-up inspection reduced violations. Two other South Florida eateries in Jupiter and Lake Worth also faced brief closures for similar problems.
   

• 1 detained after fatal shooting at Sunrise apartment complex, cops say (local10.com) — Investigators spent part of the night working a scene in Dania Beach tied to a fatal shooting that happened at a Sunrise apartment complex. Police say a man was found dead, a suspect is detained, and they’re checking whether a purple Chevrolet sedan seen in Dania Beach is connected. Anyone with information is urged to contact Broward Crime Stoppers.
