Grow Local Tour: Jensen Bros Seafood

John Jensen's seafood distributor business started from the bed of a pickup.

The owner of Jensen Bros. Seafood on Douglas Avenue showed participants on The Great Garden-to-Beer Trolley Tour into the freezer for a cutting demonstration. What began as a father-son venture, has grown to accomodate restaurants and walk-up consumers over the years.

Jensen said certain types of seafood are obtained locally, but salmon, which is imported from Chile, is one of his top sellers. (Watch the Patch video above.)

Jensen Bros. Seafood was the third stop in a recent Jolley Trolley charter tour, organized by Dunedin Community Garden volunteers, that sought to encourage and educate consumers on how to shop smarter, buy more locally-produced food and beverages, and how to ask the right questions about products. 

The tour stopped at four local businesses — the Dunedin Community Garden, JJ Gandy's Pies in Palm Harbor, Jensen Bros. Seafood and 7venth Sun Brewing (with special guest Bee Branch Creek Apiaries).
