• Sheriff's Office investigating fatal shooting of child in Florida City (usatoday.com) — A 5-year-old girl died after being shot inside a Florida City home, where police say three adults and two children were present in the early-morning hours. Florida City officers rushed her and her mother to a hospital before she was airlifted and later died. Investigators from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Homicide Bureau are still working to determine exactly how she was wounded.
   

• Mother of 5-year-old killed in Florida City shooting arrested on unrelated warrant (nbcmiami.com) — A 5-year-old girl was fatally shot inside a Florida City home, and her mother has now appeared in court on an unrelated disorderly conduct warrant. Police say several adults and two children were present when officers responded to the Northwest 1st Court address before rushing the child to local hospitals, where she died. Detectives are still investigating exactly how the shooting happened.
   

• Florida City woman charged with child abuse after boy allegedly forced to kneel on rice for hours (wsvn.com) — A Florida City woman and legal guardian was arrested after police say her younger brother fled a Southwest Ninth Street home and reported being forced to kneel on uncooked rice in a shed for hours. Officers found injuries on the boy’s knees and say this type of punishment had happened before. The woman was booked on a child abuse charge following her arrest by Florida City Police.
