County officials break down the canal network, drainage districts, and warning signs residents should watch so neighborhoods don’t get caught off guard during the next big storm.

2. Three hospitalized after multi-car crash closes I-95 express lanes (prismnews.com) — A multi-car crash on the southbound I-95 express lanes in Fort Lauderdale sent three people to the hospital and snarled traffic across central Broward. With lanes near Sunrise Boulevard shut down, drivers faced major delays and a reminder of how quickly one wreck can cripple this vital commuter corridor linking Fort Lauderdale to neighboring cities.

3. Broward's youngest students face new limits on screen time and AI (sun-sentinel.com) — Broward schools are moving to sharply limit screen time for pre-K through first graders and tighten AI chatbot use, a change that will affect classrooms from Fort Lauderdale’s Rock Island Elementary to campuses across the district. Board members also approved continuing the i-Ready software contract despite concerns about student data and how much technology young children should use.

4. Insanity Plea Got Her Off. It Won't Get Her Law License Back, Florida Supreme Court Rules (miaminewtimes.com) — A former Fort Lauderdale personal injury attorney has been denied reinstatement to practice law in Florida after a high-profile 2022 crash case in Stuart and a later insanity finding. The Florida Supreme Court agreed with a referee that she hasn’t shown the mental stability or financial responsibility required, leaving her inactive and owing costs to The Florida Bar.

5. Customer pays $3,850 for transmission repair. Months later, the mechanic calls claiming he never touched the transmission and has video (local10.com) — A Pembroke Pines driver says she paid $3,850 for a transmission overhaul, then later learned from video recorded by the mechanic that only her axles were replaced. She has since hired a Fort Lauderdale attorney, and the shop’s owner, through counsel, insists the transmission work was done and is under internal review. The parties have reached a confidential resolution, but the customer wants others warned.
