• Nearly 300 BCPS workers may not be returning next school year amid budget crunch, district says (wsvn.com) — Broward County Public Schools, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, plans to cut about 1,000 positions a year for three years, with nearly 300 currently filled jobs at risk next school year. Officials blame a massive budget shortfall and falling enrollment, while union leaders argue the cuts are too drastic. Final decisions and possible job reassignments will be discussed at a Tuesday meeting.
   

• Florida hotel sues Southwest Airlines after flight attendant allegedly tampers with fire sprinkler system, causing flood (9news.com) — A Renaissance Hotel property in Fort Lauderdale is suing Southwest Airlines, claiming a flight attendant’s alleged interference with a room fire sprinkler caused flooding that damaged multiple rooms. The hotel says remediation and repairs topped $50,000 and that the room was paid for by the airline. The lawsuit seeks to recover those costs from Southwest.
