Child, 10, Hospitalized After Suspected Fentanyl Overdose At FL Hotel: Sheriff (patch.com) — Fort Myers readers are learning more about a frightening incident at a local Quality Suites, where deputies found a 10-year-old child unresponsive from a suspected fentanyl overdose. Lee County deputies used Narcan to revive the child, then discovered fentanyl and paraphernalia within easy reach in the room, leading to the arrests of two adults on child neglect and trafficking charges.
   

2. Celebrate Crescent Beach opening; new guide for Lee County, Florida (news-press.com) — Crescent Beach Family Park on Fort Myers Beach is fully reopened with new beach access points, ADA improvements, shaded picnic areas and paths after a $1.3 million restoration. Funded by FEMA, impact fees and tourist taxes, the upgrade showcases how visitor dollars support local amenities, and comes with a new Visit Fort Myers digital guide to explore more of Lee County.
   

3. FPL and Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida distribute summer savings kits (wgcu.org) — Income-qualified Fort Myers families picked up free Summer Savings Kits at the STARS Complex, thanks to a partnership between Florida Power & Light and Harry Chapin Food Bank. Alongside regular food distribution, residents received simple tools and tips to cut cooling costs and stretch tight household budgets during the peak summer heat.
   

4. Pirate Fest returning to Salty Sam's Marina (fortmyersbeachtalk.com) — Pirate Fest is sailing back to Salty Sam's Marina on Fort Myers Beach on Saturday, September 19, with free admission, parking and docking. Families and boaters can enjoy pirate games, treasure hunts, live music, themed food and drinks, plus a pirate ship open for exploring and contests for best-decorated boats.
   

5. Growing back: Fort Myers Beach restores its tree canopy after Hurricane Ian (floridaweekly.com) — Fort Myers Beach is steadily regaining its leafy look as the town plants 74 new, storm-hardy trees along North Estero Boulevard, Bay Oaks and Palm Avenue Beach Access with federal grant support. Officials say the growing canopy will boost shade, stormwater control and resilience, marking another visible step in the island's long-term recovery from Hurricane Ian.
