The fund, honoring a beloved local athlete, will surpass $100,000 in total scholarships this year while celebrating standout high school players from across Southwest Florida.
   

• Vanderbilt Beach Road Extension opens Friday in Collier County (winknews.com) — Drivers in eastern Collier County will get relief starting Friday when the long-awaited Vanderbilt Beach Road Extension opens, easing congestion on Immokalee Road during rush hour. The seven-mile stretch from Collier Boulevard to 16th Street NE improves emergency response times now, with a second phase planned to push the road even farther east.
   

• Florida immigration arrests have quietly surged, with state and local agencies at the forefront (wgcu.org) — Florida’s aggressive immigration enforcement has led to a sharp rise in arrests, including a reported ICE stop of a Pacific Tomato Growers bus near Immokalee in late 2025. State and local agencies, from sheriffs to Fish and Wildlife, are partnering with ICE under 287(g) agreements while resisting public-records requests about these encounters.
