• Three killed in early morning crash on SR 60 near Lake Wales (newschief.com) — A deadly two-vehicle crash on State Road 60 just north of the Lake Wales airport killed three people early Sept. 24, including two Lake Wales residents. Deputies say a Chevy Malibu entered the path of a westbound dump truck around 4 a.m. The Malibu’s driver from Auburndale later died at the hospital, and investigators do not expect to file charges.
   

• Prosecution and defense rest in TJ Wiggins murder trial (newschief.com) — Jurors in the TJ Wiggins triple-murder case are set to hear closing arguments Sept. 28 after both sides rested, with key evidence tracing the suspects’ movements through a Lake Wales McDonald’s and a local car wash. Prosecutors argue Wiggins was the lone gunman in the 2020 Frostproof killings, while the defense says the state has not proven his involvement or premeditation.
