Here are the nominees for the 2026 Polk Arts and Culture Awards (theledger.com) — Lakeland arts lovers will see familiar names among the 2026 Polk Arts & Culture Awards nominees, including Lakeland Choral Society and Lakeland Art Association leaders. The countywide list highlights local organizations, educators, volunteers, and philanthropists from Lakeland, Lake Wales, Mulberry, Winter Haven and more who are being recognized for strengthening Polk's creative community. 
2. After Powerball winner in Illinois and Florida, results for Saturday, Aug. 22 (palmbeachpost.com) — A Circle K on Walt Williams Road in Lakeland sold a $1 million Powerball ticket for the August 8 drawing, and the winner has already claimed a lump-sum prize. The story also recaps Illinois' recent $1.04 billion jackpot and explains current Powerball rollover amounts, odds, and upcoming drawing dates for Florida players.
3. Florida upcoming events Aug 24 (lemonwire.com) — Lakeland fans have home games this week as the Flying Tigers host the Clearwater Threshers at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium. (newschief.com) — Polk County residents, including those in Lakeland, may be owed part of $85,677 in unclaimed court-related funds listed by the Clerk of Court. With amounts up to $7,290, anyone who recognizes a name must file a written claim and proof of ownership by Sept. 1 using details on the clerk's website or by phone.
