Ann Storck Center Hosted “Power of Love Art Show”

Ann Storck Center – a Fort Lauderdale-based private nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities – hosted “Power of Love Art Show” at the Urban League Center of Broward County on June 4. The “Power of Love Art Show” showcased artwork created throughout the year by residents of Ann Storck Center and individuals at the Victory Living program, who are participants of the Expressive Arts Program. This program is proudly funded by the Taft Foundation, inspiring creativity in all.

Guests experienced the “Power of Love” through art, music, and community. Attendees enjoyed live music performances, delicious food, and an inspiring evening celebrating the talents and voices of artists of all abilities.

Ann Storck Center’s Expressive Arts program is enjoyed by residents of the Center who are participants of the Adult Day Training program. The Taft Foundation funds this annual program, which is comprised of music therapy and art therapy. Through art, music, drama, dance, creative writing and musical performance, Ann Storck Center and Victory Living Program participants are able to experience the arts from all angles and express themselves without boundaries.

Benefits of the Expressive Arts program include developing independent, enhanced communication skills, therefore building self-confidence, creativity and improved motor skills. Therapists use creative ways to teach and enhance educational, physical, and social skills, academic skills and increase attention span.

Ann Storck Center’s Music Therapy Program provides a motivating and engaging setting to achieve individual goals. The main objective is to promote communication, stimulate cognitive and physical development, and create a more productive social atmosphere. The use of melody, rhythm, tempo, pitch, dynamics and lyrics help develop expressive language, receptive language and other skills.

“It’s unbelievable to see what the participants in our Expressive Arts Program can do when they are supported in an expressive environment,” said Ann Storck Center CEO Patricia (Pat) Murphy. “Seeing our community come together at the ‘Power of Love Art Show’ to support Ann Storck Center and the individuals we serve is truly inspiring. It reminds us of the strength and compassion of our community and underscores our mission to bring people of all abilities into a supportive community where each is

inspired to realize a fulfilling life of purpose, possibility and love.”

Ann Storck Center is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities by helping them to discover abilities and build independence. Ann Storck Center accommodates 96 residents in 10 homes and serves more than 300 clients daily through 14 programs over 11 locations with an array of critical care, learning, and ability-focused programs.
