Officials deem land seize' nuclear option' (yoursun.com) — North Port commissioners are weighing whether to use eminent domain to acquire 30 privately owned parcels that link Myakkahatchee Creek Greenway to Little Salt Spring, aiming to protect a key wildlife corridor. For now, they’ve ordered staff to negotiate with the landowner, coordinate with the school board, build a preservation coalition, and seek state and federal environmental designations while keeping eminent domain as a last-resort option.

3. Area nonprofits get Community Foundation of Sarasota County grants (yoursun.com) — New grant awards from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County will directly support North Port children and families, including hygiene supplies through Back Pack Angels and basic-needs help via Awaken Outreach. Tampa Bay Ranked Among Most Dangerous U.S. Areas for Pedestrians (iheart.com) — A new national “Dangerous by Design” report ranks the North Port–Bradenton–Sarasota metro among the most hazardous places in America for people walking, alongside Tampa Bay and several other Florida regions. Researchers blame wide, high-speed roads and poor pedestrian infrastructure, urging local governments to improve crossings and calm traffic to reduce deaths and serious injuries.
