Two Pensacola archaeologists are part of a new expedition to find Amelia Earhart's lost plane (wuwf.org) — Two Pensacola-based archaeologists are joining a 16-person expedition this October to investigate a mysterious "Taraia Object" near Nikumaroro that may be Amelia Earhart's lost plane. Their firm, RECON Offshore, and ties to UWF's archaeology program put local expertise at the center of this high-profile search. The project leader recently visited Pensacola to coordinate with them and build connections in the area's Navy and Coast Guard community.
   

2. Pensacola area outpaces Florida growth in home sales (pnj.com) — If you're buying or selling in the Pensacola area, local home sales jumped 14.5% in July even as the median price dipped slightly to $332,000. The Pensacola-Ferry Pass-Brent metro outpaced Florida's overall growth, with detailed statewide comparisons showing how our market stacks up against other Panhandle cities.

Pensacola man faces up to 15 years for possession of firearm by convicted felon (weartv.com) — A 43-year-old Pensacola man has pleaded guilty in federal court to possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon and to possessing an unregistered short‑barreled rifle. Escambia County deputies found loaded AR‑style magazines and the rifle after a January disturbance call, and sentencing is set for Nov. 19 at the federal courthouse in Pensacola.
   

4. Herman 'Buck' Lee Stewart (northescambia.com) — Family and friends in Molino and Pensacola are mourning Herman "Buck" Lee Stewart, an 81‑year‑old lifelong local who died August 23 and leaves several sisters in Pensacola. A funeral service is set for Monday, August 31, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North, with visitation an hour before. Remembered as a hardworking, animal‑loving helper, he stayed busy aiding friends and caring for his many animals even after retirement.
   

5. Florida Department of Health advances plan to drop four school vaccine mandates (weartv.com) — Families in Pensacola and across Florida could soon see four school vaccine requirements dropped, including Hepatitis B and chickenpox, under a new Department of Health proposal. Local physicians in Pensacola are split, warning about reduced herd immunity while others emphasize parental choice, and the state has opened a 21‑day public comment period before final approval.
