Most are now recovering under the care of Hillsborough County Animal Services and the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, which are urging local pet owners to surrender unwanted animals safely instead of releasing them outdoors.

• Bicyclist dies after being hit by car near Lakeland: PCSO (fox13news.com) — A bicyclist died Saturday night after being struck by a Lexus on Frontage Road near Lakeland; deputies say the rider had no lights, helmet, or reflective clothing. The driver, a 43-year-old Plant City man, stayed at the scene while investigators closed the road for several hours and worked to identify the victim and notify his family.
