Bicyclist Died After Being Hit By SUV While Crossing Sarasota County Road: FL Troopers

A bicyclist was hit by an SUV while crossing a Sarasota-area road and died at the scene, FL troopers said.

SARASOTA, FL — A bicyclist died after being hit by an SUV while crossing a Sarasota County road on Sunday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The SUV was heading south in the left lane of North Lockwood Ridge Road, north of Grocio Road, at the time of the crash.

The bicyclist stepped from the median, where he was standing with his bike, in front of the approaching SUV while trying to cross the road just after 11:30 a.m., troopers said.

The man, whose identity was unknown at the time the news release was sent out, was hit by the SUV and pronounced dead at the scene.

The SUV’s driver, a 56-year-old Sarasota man, was uninjured in the crash.
