Sarasota Motel Fire Prompts Police Evacuation Of Residents: Watch

SARASOTA, FL — Sarasota police officers rushed into an active fire at Cadillac Motel just before 7 a.m. on Saturday to make sure everyone inside had escaped safely. (Watch officer -worn bodycam footage from the fire below.)

Officers responded to the 4000 block of North Tamiami Trail after receiving a report of a fire, Sarasota police said.

When they arrived, they immediately began evacuating the motel, going room to room to check that everyone had gotten out.

Preliminary information from the Sarasota County Fire Department indicates the fire began in one unit of the seven-unit, single-story motel before spreading into the attic, police said.

One person was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire wasn’t provided.
