Dispatch told responding officers the suspect was wearing black clothing and a ski mask and was riding a black scooter.
Officers later saw a person matching that description traveling south on Alta Vista Street and South Orange Avenue on a scooter, police said.
Police set up a perimeter and requested help from Air 1, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office helicopter.
Burrows ran from officers for several minutes but was tracked by Air 1. Officers arrested him near Pomelo Avenue and Alta Vista Street.
During a search, officers found two 13-round Glock handgun magazines in Burrows’ pocket, police said. The magazines did not have any ammunition. Officers also recovered a large amount of cash from his pocket.
No firearm was found on Burrows at the time of the arrest.
Later that day, at about 7:45 p.m., officers conducting a follow-up canvass found a firearm in a holster behind a home near where Burrows was arrested, investigators said.
Police identified it as a Glock Model 23 Gen 4, .40 caliber. Officers found 13 rounds of .40-caliber ammunition in the magazine that was in the firearm.
The gun was collected as evidence and submitted for DNA analysis.
Burrows was taken to the Sarasota County Jail after his arrest.
He bonded out of jail on Monday and is scheduled to return to court for arraignment on June 26.
