Driver Fatally Shot Armed Man Who Opened Vehicle Door: Tampa Police
A man with a gun who opened the door of an occupied vehicle was fatally shot by the driver, Tampa police said.
TAMPA, FL — A death investigation is underway after a driver fatally shot an armed man who opened his vehicle’s driver’s side door early Sunday morning, Tampa police said in a news release.
Officers responded to the 8400 block of N. Armenia Avenue, where the victim had been driven, just after 12:30 a.m.
The victim was then brought to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

Detectives believe the shooting happened in the 1800 block of West Waters Avenue.
The shooter told police that a man approached his car and opened the driver’s door with a gun. He then pulled his own weapon out and shot the man.

Detectives are continuing to process evidence, review surveillance video and interview witnesses as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The shooter is cooperating with the investigation.
