Pedestrian Struck And Critically Injured By Driver In Tampa Crosswalk: Report (patch.com) — A man is in critical condition after being hit in a crosswalk at West Arch Street and North Boulevard in Tampa early Saturday morning. Police say the driver, who stayed at the scene and cooperated, was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian, and investigators do not suspect speed or impairment. Tampa residents with information are urged to contact city police.
   

2. Civilian Detained After Breaching MacDill Air Force Base, Injuring Security Officer (patch.com) — Security at Tampa's MacDill Air Force Base detained a civilian who allegedly breached the Dale Mabry Gate perimeter Saturday afternoon, injuring a base security officer in a violent confrontation. Both the assailant and officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized, while the Dale Mabry Gate was temporarily closed and traffic redirected through the Bayshore Gate during the ongoing investigation.
   

3. Dengue cases spread across US as Florida reports first 2026 death (wheninyourstate.com) — Hillsborough County, including Tampa, is at the center of Florida's unusually large dengue outbreak, which has already caused the state's first dengue-related death of 2026. With more than 130 local infections near Tampa, officials are ramping up mosquito control and urging residents to prevent bites, eliminate standing water, and watch closely for warning symptoms.
   

4. Tampa man gets life in prison for overdose death of 18-year-old USF student (wkrg.com) — A Tampa drug supplier has been sentenced to life in prison for providing the fentanyl-laced pill that killed an 18-year-old USF freshman in his dorm room. Federal prosecutors detailed a large stash of drugs, guns, and cash seized in Tampa, while three other men received sentences ranging from eight to twenty-one years.
   

5. Hurricane Helene recovery: Tampa Bay area marks two years since storm (fox13news.com) — Tampa Bay communities are still rebuilding beaches, businesses, and evacuation plans two years after Hurricane Helene's destructive storm surge reshaped the region. Clearwater's mayor, USF researchers, and local business owners describe how the storm changed coastal defenses, economic recovery, and how seriously residents now take evacuation orders when major storms threaten.
