Driver Killed In Head-On Crash: St. Pete Police
The driver of a pick-up truck died after crossing into oncoming traffic and hitting a van, St. Petersburg police said.
ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A 72-year-old man died early Thursday morning after a head-on crash at 5th Avenue N. and Lafayette Street N., St. Petersburg police said in a news release.
The victim, Charles Caravana, was driving a pick-up truck east on 5th Ave. N. when he crossed into oncoming traffic as he approached Lafayette Street N. just after 1:30 .m., police said.
He hit a van traveling west on 5th Avenue N. head-on.

Caravana died at the scene and his next-of-kin have been notified.
The van’s driver, a 67-year-old woman, was brought to Orlando Bayfront Hospital, where she’s in stable condition, police said.
