Former Harold Seltzer's Becomes Traditions On Tyrone Event Space

The longtime St. Pete property now hosts weddings, parties and community events, with a nod to its Harold Seltzer's past.

A familiar Tyrone Boulevard property that once housed Harold Seltzer’s Steakhouse and the restaurant's predecessor for nearly 25 years, has been reimagined as Traditions on Tyrone, a modern celebration of life and event center.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A familiar Tyrone Boulevard property that once housed Harold Seltzer’s Steakhouse and the restaurant's predecessor for nearly 25 years, has been reimagined as Traditions on Tyrone, a modern celebration of life and event center. The venue held its grand opening on June 11.

Traditions on Tyrone, at 3500 Tyrone Blvd. N., is designed for “all life's celebrations,” Christopher Halsey, location manager, told Patch.

Falling under the Dignity Memorial umbrella, best known as a funeral, cremation, and cemetery service provider, Traditions is a unique concept for the brand, serving as a space that can host a range of events: weddings anniversaries, bar mitzvahs, sweet sixteens, business meetings, and community celebrations, as well as memorial services.

Harold Seltzer’s Steakhouse closed the St. Pete location, its last restaurant open at the time, in September 2024.

The property opened in 2000 first as Sam Seltzer’s, and then became Harold Seltzer’s in 2010.

The new Traditions concept keeps several visible links to the former restaurant.

“One of the things that we kept is one of the cows that was very famous, here they have like seven or eight of them, so we actually kept one,” Halsey said, adding that the building’s history mattered during the tradition.

A local artist who also works at Traditions repainted the cow, which is being named by contest.

Inside, Halsey said the building was largely rebuilt.

“We actually gutted the whole building,” he said. “We kept the bar area, but the walls were all torn down, so these are all brand new walls, all brand new floors, a whole new footprint.”

The former bar was preserved as “Seltzer's Legacy Tavern,” with the same bar and tables kept in place while other features within this space were updated.

The redesign aimed to balance familiarity with a more flexible layout.

“We wanted to keep some familiarity with the tavern, but then we wanted to make it more open,” Halsey said.

Windows were added to bring in natural light, and neutral colors were chosen so rooms could be customized for different events.

In addition to serving as a rental space, the Traditions team is already planning future community uses for the venue, including chamber gatherings and other public events.
