St. Pete to install first HydroPlanter system in $7M stormwater drainage project (baynews9.com) — St. Petersburg is launching a nearly $7 million stormwater project west of Fourth Street N., adding larger pipes and the city's first HydroPlanter rain garden system to cut neighborhood flooding. Work along 50th Avenue N. and nearby streets should start in early 2027, backed by a SWIFTMUD grant, and will include major curb‑to‑curb construction and outreach to affected residents.
   

2. Williams Park to be revived with Winter Wonder (stpetecatalyst.com) — Williams Park in downtown St. Petersburg will host a six-week Winter Wonder holiday experience starting Nov. 20, complete with an open-air ice rink, market, food, and entertainment. City and Downtown Improvement District leaders will use the event to test how residents use the park before launching state-funded upgrades and a newly renovated bandshell that could attract more concerts and community events.
   

3. Small Florida airport aids hurricane relief missions (insideflyer.com) — St. Petersburg's Albert Whitted Airport is quietly serving as a vital hub for hurricane relief flights, thanks to its location and partnership with nonprofit Sol Relief. Small turboprop aircraft based here can quickly move supplies across Florida and into the Caribbean, reaching communities that larger planes and damaged roads can't, while also supporting longer-term rebuilding projects.
   

4. Nonpoint Announce Florida Shows For 30th Anniversary Celebration (themosh.net) — St. Petersburg rock fans can catch Nonpoint's 30th anniversary tour when it hits Jannus Live on Jan. 31, capping a three-night Florida run. The longtime nü-metal band promises deep cuts from all 11 albums, joined by Afterlife and Aurorawave for a home-state celebration of their three-decade career.
   

5. After parent outcry, Pinellas school board open to changing closure plan (tampabay.com) — Parents from Tarpon Springs and St. Petersburg's Sexton Elementary pushed the Pinellas school board to rethink proposed school closures and consolidations, and board members signaled they're open to alternatives. Sexton's future, along with Tarpon Springs campuses and possibly Woodlawn Elementary, will be debated at an Oct. 6 workshop before a final vote on Oct. 13 that could reshape local school options.
