St. Pete Police Search For Fatal Hit-and-Run Driver: Watch

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — St. Petersburg police are searching for the driver of a Mercedes SUV that struck and killed a 65-year-old motorcyclist early Sunday morning and fled the scene.

The crash happened around 1:10 a.m. at the intersection of 9th Avenue North and 4th Street North, police said in a news release.

The motorcyclist, a 65-year-old Pinellas Park man, was traveling south on 4th Street North on a black Suzuki motorcycle when a dark-colored Mercedes SUV heading north on 4th Street North turned west onto 9th Avenue North in front of the motorcycle, police said.

The motorcycle and SUV collided, and the SUV fled west on 9th Avenue North.

The victim was taken to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg, where he later died from his injuries.

Police released video showing the SUV and are asking the public for help identifying the vehicle and driver. (Watch the video below.)

The SUV is described as dark gray or black and is believed to have significant damage to its front right side.
