1. Cops: Knife-wielding man drowned victim's phone (yoursun.com) — Law enforcement arrested a Venice-area man after a late-night disturbance where a woman reported he waved a knife, damaged their home, and destroyed her phone in water. Deputies say he appeared under the influence, was detained with a knife sheath in his pocket, and now faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges with arraignment set for July 10. 
2. Worried about development? - WSLR+Fogartyville (wslr.org) — Neighbors from around Sarasota County recently met at Venice’s Jacaranda Library to learn how to influence development decisions before they’re finalized. Speakers walked residents through zoning and planning steps, stressed the importance of early involvement, and shared tools for tracking proposals that could affect neighborhood character, infrastructure, and quality of life.
3. Seminarians serving summer assignments (thefloridacatholic.org) — Catholics in Venice are being asked to pray for and support 13 seminarians serving summer pastoral assignments across the Diocese of Venice. Their work ranges from assisting at Mass to visiting the sick, while parishioners can help through prayer, the Catholic Faith Appeal, and donations sent to the diocesan vocations office on Pinebrook Road in Venice.
4. Catholic Charities Awarded Grant Supporting Housing (thefloridacatholic.org) — Catholic Charities Diocese of Venice has received a $250,000 TD Charitable Foundation grant to help prevent evictions and homelessness across Southwest Florida, including Sarasota County. The funding will mainly go toward emergency rental assistance and intensive case management, pairing financial help with services like landlord negotiation, counseling, and job support to keep families housed and stable long term.
