• Wellington Burger King suspect arrested on aggravated assault charges (cbs12.com) — Deputies say a man pointed a handgun at two employees during a drive-through dispute at the Burger King on State Road 7 in Wellington, leading to two aggravated assault charges, one enhanced under Florida’s hate-crime law. No injuries were reported, but investigators allege a racial slur was used, and the suspect is now being held on bond with orders to avoid all Burger King locations.

• Wellington council approves first reading of e-bike and scooter ordinance (wpbf.com) — Wellington’s village council has advanced new rules that would cap e-bike and scooter speeds on sidewalks at 15 mph, require helmets and ID, and bar riders under 15, with a final vote set for Aug. 10. The measure, which passed 4–1, also bans these devices on equestrian streets and aims to reduce crashes involving children and motorized rides.

• $25,000 Jacobs Wellington Foundation grant renews Cox STEM partnership (palmswestjournal.com) — A renewed $25,000 grant from the Jacobs Wellington Foundation will keep the Cox Science Center’s STEM Passport program available at no cost for about 500 Wellington elementary and middle school students next year. The partnership, which has already reached more than 3,000 local kids, combines in-class lessons with field trips and is designed to remove financial and transportation barriers to hands-on science learning.
