Teen Dead, Man Charged With Murder In Athens Shooting

A woman was injured in a shooting that killed a teenage boy in an Athens community, police say.

ATHENS, GA β€” A 17-year-old boy was killed in a shooting that injured an 18-year-old woman early Friday morning in the area of Rowe Road, police said.

The shooting happened around 5:45 a.m. in the 100 block of Rowe. During some time, the woman and boy arrived with gunshot wounds at a local hospital, police said.

The boy, who was from Athens, died of his injuries while at the hospital, police said. He was not identified.

The woman, also from Athens, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Officers have arrested Jakel Arnold, a 22-year-old Athens man, on charges of felony and malice murder, four counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, police said.

He was being held without bond for most charges but was granted a $10,000 bond for the possession charge, jail records showed Friday.

A motive in the shooting was not revealed.
